My main interests are computers, listening to music, going to gigs, archery and web-site design. Favourite bands include The Go-Betweens, Buffalo Tom, dEUS, My Bloody Valentine, The Lassie Foundation, The Fauves, R.E.M., Sunbear, The Plague Monkeys and The Prayer Boat. Also a big fan of Underground Lovers, Ecstasy Of Saint Theresa, Swervedriver, Ivy, Cocteau Twins and Smashing Pumpkins.

History behind the website:
 
When I first started listening to music around 1993, I was listening to the likes of R.E.M., Nirvana and Pearl Jam. I never really rated Irish music at all, with a couple of exceptions like Ash, Therapy? and The Frames.

But around 1996 that changed when I bought Mexican Pets mini-LP "Nobody's Working Title". I was looking for a CD to buy and it was relatively cheap at £6 and I'd seen them play live in The Point, Dublin the previous Christmas. That mini-LP contained the stunning opening track 'Stigmata Errata', a song Dinosuar Jr. or Sonic Youth would have been proud to have written. My eyes, and ears, were opened to new bands.

Later on I searched the internet looking to find more info about this great band... but there was almost nothing to be found. A one page review from a gig in Whelan's gig was about it. So I started a 'Mexican Pets home page' because I'd always loved the idea of having my own web-site. Hosted by Geocities, it contained a bit of history on the band, lyrics, pictures and a few other bits and pieces. The site got some visitors, got some nice emails and even a mention on 2FM once.

I got more and more into Irish music then and realised that there were other brilliant bands out there that people knew very little about. The Plague Monkeys had just released their debut album and had only one web page on IOL, The Prayer Boat had a small site on eircom.net and The Frames page at elektra.com wasn't kept up-to-date. There seemed to be no information at all on some bands like Bulkhead, Relish, The Wilde Oscars, etc. Some bands already had great (un)official websites like My Bloody Valentine, Sunbear and Scheer.

So I got the idea of turning the site into a resource of information about independent Irish bands. I came up with the name 'Irish Music Central' one day in college when I probably should've been programming or something like that. I decided not to add bands that already had good websites because I would only be duplicating information that was already available on the internet anyway.

A turnaround began to start in the Irish music scene in the late nineties. Bands who got signed to major labels in the early nineties (Whipping Boy-Columbia; The Frames-Island; Rollerskate Skinny-Warner Bros.; The Prayer Boat-BMG) were ground-down by the record 'industry' and abandoned in indie wilderness. But not everyone lost hope.
