RTÉ report: "Downpatrick rockers Ash are currently based in New
York, writing and recording their fifth album.
The as-yet-untitled record is due
for release in early 2007.
Frontman Tim Wheeler told
Billboard that the band had spent so much time in America promoting
their last album, 'Meltdown', that they decided to live there.
With guitarist Charlotte
Hatherley leaving the band after nine years earlier this year, the
band have returned to their original line up of Wheeler
(vocals/guitar), Mark Hamilton (bass) and Rick McMurray (drums).
Hatherley is currently working on
her second solo album, the follow-up to 2004's 'Grey Will Fade'."

March 9 2005 "1977" was voted No.17 in Hot Press People's Choice Top 100 Irish albums of all-time.
Una Mullally,
Hot Press:
"1977 is an album that defined a summer. Everybody in their 20s remembers ‘that Ash summer’ when ‘Oh Yeah’ was the soundtrack of first-time sex, ‘Goldfinger’ was the soundtrack of getting pissed, ‘Innocent Smile’ was the requiem for Kurt Cobain, ‘Kung Fu’ was the stupid moshing one and ‘Lose Control’ was about getting wasted. Ash were hot, young, and just like the kids who bought the record. The ‘hidden track’ was them puking in the studio and it defines the album; irresponsible, messy, fast and fucked-up goodness. I salute them".
"Free All Angels" was voted No.36
Ashee, hotpress.com:
"Free All Angels sees Ash at their best musically after the commercial disaster that was Nu-Clear Sounds. Tim Wheeler’s ridiculously good songwriting skills are most evident on this album – the poignantly beautiful ‘Shining Light’ and teen anthem ‘Burn Baby Burn’ only begin to show what this man is capable of. The sample-laden ‘Candy’ placed alongside the loud and riff-heavy ‘Shark’ is clear evidence of a musically mature and diverse band, at the height of their powers."

November 18 2004 Ash / 1977 (17/100 Greatest Irish Albums) | The 100 Greatest Irish Albums
1977 went straight to No. 1 in the UK and spawned four hit singles. By the time the group came to record the follow-up, Nu-clear Sounds, they were still only 20.

October 2004 Ash appear on 'Sattitude'.

September 2004 FrictionPR: "Ash have confirmed 2 Irish shows as a substantial warm-up for their impending full European tour.
They will be playing King John’s Castle, Limerick on Sun 3 October (with Special Guests the Ian McCulloch Band and Woodstar) and Ten in Waterford on Monday 4 October.
A week or so later they release a rocking new single, “Renegade Cavalcade” (Infectious) on 15 October. It is taken from their current Meltdown album.
The band have also announced that they are planning to release an acoustic album next year. The band are expecting to spend much of next year touring in America and want to be in a position to release something new for their fans. Added to that they have a whole bundle of songs that didn’t have the right feel for the current Meltdown album for which an acoustic release would be the perfect place."
