September 2008
Ian Whitty's album "The Lucky Caller No.9" will be released on October
24th, with the album launch in
The Pavilion, Cork on October 15th.
" 'The Lucky Caller
No.9' is the long awaited first full length studio album from Ian Whitty
And The Exchange. The record was produced by top Irish producer Ken
McHugh (Dave Kitt, Autamata) and mastered by Dave Collins in Los Angeles
(Bruce Springsteen, Janes Addiction). It was recorded by Ian Whitty And
The Exchange in 2007 between the legendary Connelleys of leap in West
Cork and Adda/My Sanctuary studio's in the hills of Wicklow.
The singles from the album 'Not On Your Side' and 'Houndstooth Shirt'
have been playlisted on national, regional and college stations
nationwide. 'Houndstooth shirt' also appeared on this years IMRO Tour
compilation. Lush strings and brass dominate the indie pop arrangements
of the new recordings and the up tempo nature of the songs marks an
exciting progression from Ian's stripped back beginnings."

"Ian Whitty and The Exchange at The Spiegeltent"
"Ian Whitty and his band were up next
on stage in the Spiegeltent after Cian and Aaron Dillon almost two weeks
ago. I’ve seen Ian Whitty play numerous times over the years and he is
now a more rounded and complete artist. His debut album Will o’ the Wisp
is more softly spoken and subtle than the rockier sound he and his band
now display. Having said that the later music still has the
fantastically clever and imaginative wordplay so evident on Will o’ the
Wisp. The next album is coming out later on this year and it’s one I
can’t wait to get my hands on; songs like Houndstooth Shirt and Not on
Your Side are already instantly recognisable at his gigs."

April 2008
"Houndstooth
Shirt released on April 18th is the first single to be taken from
Ian Whitty’s full length debut album. The song was written about a shirt
that Ian bought in a thrift store in New York whilst doing some gigs
there a couple of years ago. “I guess the song itself is about the
feeling of promise and release that comes with a Friday after you have
been dragged by the eye balls across your working week,” is what Ian
himself says about the song.
The single features vibrant string and brass arrangements, and was
recorded by Ian Whitty and his recording and touring band ‘The Exchange’
with top Irish producer Ken Mc Hugh last year.
Since Ian’s emergence, he has been a highly active figure in the
thriving Cork scene as well as being invited to perform with many of the
luminaries of the Irish scene including Declan O’Rourke, Bell X1, Josh
Ritter, Damien Rice, The Frames and Roderigo y Gabriella, to name but a
few. Most recently Ian has been invited to perform as part of the IMRO
tour 2008.
Ian is a songwriter who firmly believes in craft and in always placing
substance over style. He is most often praised for his distinctive vocal
delivery and lyricism that manages to be urgent, humorous and razor
sharp without ever sacrificing the storytelling that underpins his
songs.
Some of the new Ian Whitty recordings have already been selected for use
in multiple documentaries, compilations and short films."

March 2008

March 2006
Ian Whitty has recorded an Irish version of a new song for the Seachtain
na Gaeilge compilation "Ceol '06". The song is 'Houndstooth Shirt' which
translates as Léine cú Fhiacaile.
"CEOL ’06 contains a
selection of breathtaking songs in Irish put together by some of the
best singers and bands in the music industry. The Irish language belongs
to all and these CDs show that there are many different ways to use it.
All profits from these CDs will be donated to Concern to help with
educational projects in Mozambique (last year we raised €20,000 for
Mozambique and this year we believe that we can double the amount with
your help!). The double album will be released on the 3rd of March
2006."

Sirius Arts Centre Is Proud To Present
An Evening With
BRENDAN O’SHEA & IAN WHITTY
FRIDAY 26 SEPTEMBER 8PM – TICKETS €10
Brendan grew up in Killarney, County Kerry and began to write songs and
perform. In 1997 he moved to New York guitar in hand, and a pocket full of
songs. Finding part time work, making enough money to pay the bills, he
began performing at open mics. Most notably Sidewalk Café in the East
Village. Over time, with a steadily growing following, Brendan went on to
play supports in some of the most happening clubs in New York - Mercury
Lounge, Arlene’s Grocery, Bowery Ballroom.
After receiving rave reviews from his support slots with the Cowboy Junkies,
and 10,000 Maniacs, and with a growing fan base, in February 2003 he
released his debut record, “In the Light” touring Ireland most recently as
support for Mark Geary to rave reviews.
Ian Whitty also hails from Killarney and is known for his melodic
contemporary folk sound that has led him to be identified as a strong new
voice in Irish songwriting. Building a steady following in Ireland Ian has
been performing nationwide for over three years now. Last year he completed
his first tour of America's East Coast. In recent times Ian has performed
alongside such acclaimed acts as The Frames, Josh Ritter, Katell Keineg and
Mundy to name but a few. He just recently supported Mark Geary in Cork at
the Half Moon Theatre in Cork.
