February

2005 Mark Geary continues to promote his very fine Ghosts album with
the following Irish shows before heading off to the U.S. to support
the
Frames.
Billboard Magazine just said the following:
New York-based Irishman Mark Geary, offers an outstanding sophomore release
in "Ghosts." His obscurity should end here: with sparse but superlative
meditations like "Beautiful," "You're the Only Girl," the pretty lullaby
"Mid-nite Sun" and the nearly nine-minute "Hold Tight," Geary's songwriting
and delivery recall such top contemporary practitioners as Ron Sexsmith.
"Ghosts" also evokes Van Morrison, particularly his early-1970s era. Perhaps
most satisfying about the album is that such a project can be released in
2005 at all—apart from occasional drum programming, these are fully organic,
natural-sounding recordings; vocoder, synthesizers and other sound
manipulators need not apply. "Ghosts" is a collection of superb songs
delivered with a quiet intensity that will endear itself to listeners.—CW,

March 2002 News from
PrayerBoat.com : "Eastwest are releasing Polichinelle in the UK." "There will be editorial in What's On Magazine (6th March) and an interview with Emmett in Guitarist (April Issue)."
December 2001 No.1 on RollingStone.com The Prayer Boat's 'Polichinelle' was one of the top albums
chosen by the critics at the Rolling Stone magazine! "Other indie-rock hopes garnering significant support included vets like Guided by Voices (who topped a pair of lists), the White Stripes, Spoon and the Frames. Indie-minded -- but major-backed -- sorts earned kudos as well, notably comeback kids Weezer and the largely overlooked the Prayer Boat." STEVE BALTIN 1. The Prayer Boat, Polichinelle (Atlantic): Gorgeous, melodic, moving real songs. 2. Bjork, Vespertine (Elektra): More out-there genius from popular music's most daring artist. AIDIN VAZIRI 1. Alpha, The Impossible Thrill (Astralwerks): Is it a sin to get a high off music this sad and slow and lush and languid and doomed and beautiful? If so, call me Beelzebub. 2. The Prayer Boat, Polichinelle (Atlantic): Emmett Tinley should have been this year's David Gray: the beaten troubadour whose soulful songs of anger, betrayal and loss shatter all expectations.

March 30 2001 Some interesting news from Taylor Hartman: "After NYC show last week, I had the good fortune to talk with Emmett at length. He alone, is now The Prayer Boat...the other members, including his brother, have moved on with their lives, though it was very hospitable, and they of course would play with him again, in Eire. His
current plan is to return to Amsterdam (there now) pack his belongings and then return to NYC to reside. Atlantic records released "Polichinelle" in US, last week and are fully committed to Emmet. The people from the label, that I spoke to, were very enthusiastic. They are talking with David Gray about Emmett supporting David on his upcoming US tour, but regardless of those negotiations....The Prayer Boat will be playing shows in North America soon.. stay tuned!"
March 20 2001 'Polichinelle' has been released in the USA on Atlantic Records.

Setanta Records: "Lead singer Emmett Tinley has moved back to his native Ireland to finish demoing material for the new album. The band played at this years EXPO 2000 in Germany and will hopefully be doing a full European tour early next year. The album Polichinelle was re-released this last year with brand new artwork in a digipak form. The Prayer Boat are proud to release "Polichinelle" in a digipak, the album came out late last year in France, Belgium, Holland and Spain to rave reviews. It was even named one of the years top 10 albums in Holland's version of NME/Rolling Stone magazine Orr. The band are touring Europe in May and should be playing a date in London in June. Emmett has just demoed some new songs and we may even have another album out before the end of the year."
2000 From Emmett: "Though there have been several Prayer Boat concerts in Europe this year, the last concert with the regular line-up (Emmett Tinley-vocal, guitar, piano; Patrick Tinley-guitars; Tony Byrne-bass; Tim Houlihan-drums) was in the Paradiso, Amsterdam on 11th December last year.. more". From
Setanta Records: "Last year the band made their first trip to North America. The reaction to their songs was rapturous and won them some heavy duty fans. Consequently the band were asked to contribute to an album for the prestigious R&B label Ruffhouse, home to The Fugees and Lauren Hill. This record also includes tracks from De La Soul and Annie Lennox and is due for summer release."
